Pan Asian Battleships

The new Pan-Asian branch features ships from China, Thailand and Indonesia. At low and mid-tiers, these ships will be fast and nimble battlecruisers armed with 152 mm guns, and beginning at Tier VIII, they will turn into heavier armored battleships. Their main battery will be capable of dishing out a good amount of damage per minute, but in return will have somewhat poor salvo weight and range. Starting from Tier VI, they will additionally be armed with deepwater torpedoes. For captains interested in team-oriented gameplay, from Tier VI onwards the AA of these ships will be improved by the Defensive AA Fire consumable, while their normal damage also becomes well above average, making the ships well suited to fend off enemy carriers. Additionally, from Tier VIII onwards, a short ranged Surveillance Radar will allow these battleships to spot enemy vessels for their team. The improved features of this line will be balanced out by generally rather weak armor and a comparatively weak main battery.

As standard for battleships, the line will feature a standard Repair Party and Damage Control Party. Available in its own slot at Tier V and onwards will also be a standard speed boost.

In battle, these characteristics will come together in a mid to close-range playstyle. The torpedoes and large caliber main guns coupled with their decent concealment will allow these ships to take aggressive positions and make use of their good damage per minute, while their speed and agility also allow them to conduct successful retreats when in danger. Captains will want to carefully consider their position at every move though: weak armor and an exposed citadel may mean a rather quick demise when caught unprepared.

At the turn of the century, Germany was among the most important partners of the Chinese Empire when it came to naval development, delivering a class of ironclads, multiple protected cruisers and developing a class of modern destroyers. Without the outbreak of World War 1, it might have been possible that the Chinese-German collaboration would have culminated in the building of modern Chinese capital ships based on German battlecruiser developments of the time.

A hypothetical modernization of the German battlecruiser Hindenburg if she had been seized at Scapa Flow instead of being sunk by her own crew. The design incorporates British assets of the time. After the signing of the Washington Naval Treaty, Great Britain would have had little interest in keeping the Hindenburg around, making her a good candidate to be sold to the young Chinese Republic.

During the interwar period, Japan turned into an import partner for Chinese naval expansions, providing the designs for the light cruisers of the Ping Hai class. These relations broke down during the latter part of the 1930’s, but the proposals of the give some insight into what a modern Chinese capital ship might have looked like: small and compact to accommodate China's limited financial options, based off contemporary Japanese designs and suited for a large variety of tasks.

During the interwar period, the Kingdom of Siam began a fruitful cooperation with the Kingdom of Italy to strengthen their navy. This included the purchase of two coastal battleships and two modern light cruisers, the latter of which were seized by Italy after the start of World War 2. If this cooperation had lasted longer, it might have included even larger vessels, possibly even small battleships for a truly ocean-going Siamese Navy. Such ships could have been based on Italian studies for small, modern capital ships of the late 1920s and early 1930’s.

During the late 1950's, Indonesia entered into a short-lived period of pro-Soviet politics, during which immense amounts of Soviet military equipment were sold to the young country. This included multiple naval vessels, the biggest of which being the light cruiser Irian. Documents reveal that even more extensive military aid from the Soviet Union was planned, including the construction of a light aircraft carrier. It can be assumed that even the development of something akin to a modern battleship would not be entirely impossible at the time.

During the early days of the Cold War, The Soviet Union and the newly established Peoples Republic of China had a close military alliance, which included massive transfers of old Soviet Equipment to the Chinese military. In regard to ships, this included four destroyers of the Gnevny class. Had the international situation required it, these would have been supplemented by larger vessels build upon the designs of Soviet engineers.

A battleship similar in many respects to the Sovetsky Soyuz-class, except in the gunnery department. Changzheng is armed with six 457 mm main battery guns with good accuracy and range. A small dreadnought-type battleship based on the Austro-Hungarian Tegethoff-class. Before the start of World War I, China had requested multiple projects to be built in Austria Hungary, so its quite likely that any possible new battleship might have been ordered there as well. Dingyuan will be excellent at shorter ranges thanks to her improved secondary battery and quick-reloading underwater torpedo tubes. Among her weaknesses is her slow speed and low survivability, as Dingyuan has a small HP-Pool and rather weak armor.
