Admiral Zenker and Other Ship Concepts

German Battlecruiser Admiral Zenker, Tier IX

Admiral Zenker is based on a German battlecruiser design from 1928. This design was intended as a treaty cruiser killer, armed with eight 305 mm guns in four twin turrets as well as a heavy secondary battery with 150 mm guns in triple turrets. For such ships to ever come to be, a nullification of the Treaty of Versailles was necessary as it was limiting Germany to build ships with a maximum displacement of 10 000 tons. However, Vice-Admiral Hans Zenker, the one in charge of this battlecruiser design as well as the “father” of the Panzerschiffe design, annoyed the Reichstag a bit too much, constantly pushing them to negotiate the nullification of the treaty. As a result, he was replaced with Erich Raeder and the 1928 design was abandoned. However, when Hitler came to power, he would dust it off, and the Scharnhorst-class would be born from its ashes.

In game, Admiral Zenker will present a significant alternative in playstyle to her half-sister, Admiral Schröder. She loses her improved secondary battery in favor of drastically increasing the potency of her main battery. This will position Admiral Zenker as an agile, yet vulnerable long range sniper.

German Battleship Sachsen, Tier IX

During WWII, the German Army managed to capture a number of allied ships which they intended to refit for service within the Kriegsmarine, although very few ships ever got so far. The largest singular vessel ever captured was the unfinished Soviet battleship Sovietskaya Ukraina. Although no specific plans exist on how this vessel would have looked under German service, it seems very likely that the unfinished vessel would've been used, one way or another. In game, Sachsen will combine crucial aspects of both the German and Soviet battleship trees. She will feature both the improved German secondaries as well as the signature accuracy settings found on Russian battleships. This combination will put Sachsen on a path of close-range engagements first and foremost, with her abilities at longer ranges being quite limited.

Guangzhou is equipped with two twin AK-130 130 mm naval guns, PJ-26 76 mm DP guns, and AK-630 6-barrel 30 mm CIWS guns. The ship is also equipped with fixed homing torpedoes, which are few in quantity but very powerful individually. With such equipment, Guangzhou can intercept incoming enemy planes while also staying in combat with enemy ships.
